Krav Maga is the hand-to-hand fighting and self-defense system of the Israeli Military with applications for civilians. It’s an easy to learn and easy to remember system of self-defense with techniques based on instinct.

Krav Maga was designed to be learned in a relatively short amount of time, and to be used effectively by all people, from the smallest female to the largest man, young and old. It covers standup and ground fighting, as well as how to deal with an attacker that has a weapon such as a gun or a knife. It also teaches how to handle various scenarios such as a carjacking, home invasion, and multiple attackers.

We were founded in 2004 by Devin Shirley, and our instructor staff has over 30 years of combined experience in Krav Maga.

The History of Krav Maga

Imi Lichtenfeld was a Hungarian-born Israeli martial artist. A champion boxer, Imi put his skills to use when anti-Semitic riots threatened his neighborhood in the 1930s. He led a group of Jewish boxers and wrestlers that took to the streets to defend the Jewish community against the fascists.

Imi discovered that what he knew about boxing didn’t translate well to combat in the street. He began to train fighters in physical fitness, swimming, knife attacks, and defense against knife attacks. It was Imi’s 20 years in the IDF that allowed him to develop Krav Maga into the system used today.
